LTFF Welcomes a Legend: Scott Reeder

Lake Travis Film Festival is thrilled to announce that our friend,  the legendary prop master and TikTok star, Scott Reeder, will be helping bring LTFF to life! With a career defined by crafting captivating visual experiences for films and now captivating audiences with his behind-the-scenes prop creation tricks on TikTok, Scott is set to bring his unique expertise and creativity to LTFF’s 2023 festival.

Meet Scott Reeder

For decades, Scott Reeder has been an unsung hero in the film industry, masterfully bringing character’s worlds to life through his expertly crafted props. His work has graced the scenes of some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters, like “Friday the 13th,” and widely viewed TV shows like “Friday Night Lights,” contributing to the authenticity and immersive storytelling that fascinates audiences worldwide.

More recently, Scott has become a sensation on TikTok, where he shares his insider knowledge and provides an inside look to prop creation. One of his videos with over 10 million views is titled “Props you never knew existed,” where he reveals props like fake grocery bags made of vinyl, and pool balls switched for painted racquetballs to reduce background noise while filming. Scott’s videos have captivated millions with his creativity, humor, and passion for the art of prop-making.

A Hometown Friendship & Stale Popcorn Feature

LTFF has a place in Scott’s heart as our film festival is located in his hometown. Our shared passion for film creation, combined with Scott’s expertise, provided the perfect opportunity for Scott to reach out to us! He’s featured on this year’s first episode of Stale Popcorn (stream now on Apple Podcasts). In this episode, Scott talks about his journey to TikTok, insight into being a prop-master, anecdotes from working with Chuck Norris, his contribution to LTFF, “Hey Watson, Cinderblock,” and wraps up with some well placed Dad jokes (what many TikTok fans see as his original claim to fame).

When asked why he feels LTFF stands out from Austin’s various film festivals, he said the LTFF team is providing a behind-the-scenes look that most festivals don’t show, and our team is welcoming content creators into an industry that is generally slow to embrace new creative mediums. Scott plans to contribute to this year's festival through a prop making workshop for younger kids who are interested in his craft. He wants them to learn that there’s more to film production than simply directing, writing and producing (though he recognizes these are important roles). He enthusiastically pointed out, “there are so many different avenues you can take! There is an art to all of it.” A major focus of the festival this year is behind the scenes and what goes into creating the festival, making Scott an ideal partner as we work to bring you “backstage looks” at LTFF 2023.
